Russia-Ukraine war: US welcomes PM Modi’s Eastern Europe Peace Efforts

Russia-Ukraine war

As the confrontation between Russia-Ukraine war has been ongoing for nearly a year, the United States reaffirmed that it will welcome any efforts made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to settle the conflict.

John Kirby, the spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, told the media that the United States would welcome any initiative that could lead to the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. Putin may yet be able to stop this war, in my opinion. I believe there is yet time. I shall defer to Prime Minister Modi regarding any initiatives he is ready to pursue.

In the meantime, Kirby praised the remarks made by Prime Minister Modi during his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The United States praised Prime Minister Modi’s statement that “this is not the era of war” as a statement of principle that resonated strongly and positively throughout Europe.

Today is not a time of war: Prime Minister Modi

On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference, Prime Minister Modi stated, “The current era is not one of conflict, as I discussed with you on the phone. Today, we will have the chance to discuss how we might advance along the path to peace.”

Meanwhile, Kirby attributed the Russia-Ukraine war to President Putin. “Vladimir Putin is completely responsible for what the Ukrainian people are enduring, and he could stop it immediately.” “Instead, he is sending cruise missiles into energy and power facilities to knock off the lights and heat, causing the Ukrainian individuals to suffer even more,” he said.

However, Kirby stated that hostilities should stay with the goals and leadership of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as his judgment of what is acceptable to the Ukrainian people. Without Ukraine, there is nothing about Ukraine. With the heaviest hand imaginable, he replied, “when President Zelenskyy deems it’s time to deal, and he alone can make this determination.” When President Zelenskyy is ready to negotiate, he will have the strongest possible hand thanks to this.

Kirby also highlighted the efforts of US Vice President Joe Biden to stop the tragic conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Therefore, President Biden has repeated these remarks dozens of times. We believe that this war could and should end today,” he stated.

It is important to note that on February 24, Russian President Putin ordered a special military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine, which quickly spread across the country. After Russia recognized the independence of two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine and authorized its army to launch a “peacekeeping operation” in the region, war was declared between the two nations.

According to sources, approximately 8 million Ukrainians were internally displaced by late May, and over 7.9 million had departed the nation by the first week of January 2023. The invasion has also resulted in tens of thousands of dead on both sides and the greatest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
