Just days before the formal presentation of the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series, Samsung has revealed a slew of new app support for both the incoming lineup and the existing smartwatches, with the goal of improving the user experience.

New Apps for the Samsung Galaxy Watches

Samsung announced the release of a new Samsung Wallet app, a Thermo Check app, and WearOS compatibility for a new WhatsApp app. This comes on the heels of WhatsApp releasing a new app for Wear OS 3.0 and the future WearOS 4.0 devices.

To begin, the new Thermo Check app will enable developers to fully utilise the infrared technology used in Galaxy Watches to assess temperature. This will be possible thanks to Samsung’s Privileged Health software development kit (SDK) and its most recent Skin Temperature API.

With this new technology, your Samsung Galaxy Watch will be able to measure not only your body temperature but also the temperature of your surroundings and the numerous items you interact with. And all without making any physical touch with the object. It can tell you the temperature of your next meal, the water you’re about to drink, the chair you’re about to sit in, and much more. This feature will be available first on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series, with a later deployment planned for the Watch 5 and previous versions.

The next Galaxy Watch 6, as well as the Series 5 and Series 4 smartwatches, will be able to respond to messages instantaneously, send new messages, and even accept and reject calls on WhatsApp while on the go. You will be able to send audio notes as well.

Finally, you will be able to make payments using your Galaxy Watch with Samsung Wallet. This will be achievable by combining Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass. Aside from making purchases, you will be able to keep and view your official government IDs, as well as examine your various transportation details such as airplane tickets and much more.

Overall, with the new Galaxy Watch 6 series, we have a lot to look forward to in terms of software. It’s also encouraging to note that Samsung isn’t abandoning older devices. WearOS 4.0 seems promising, especially for Galaxy Watches, with Google promising major battery and optimisation improvements.
