The first major update for Windows 11. New security, productivity, accessibility, and gaming features are included in the update. The operating system’s first anniversary is quickly approaching. The new operating system launched with a redesigned interface, widgets, a more accessible Microsoft Teams experience, multiple desktops and Snap Layouts and Groups, as well as Android Apps.
The Windows 11 update makes it easier to use your computer
The new Windows 11 update includes a faster, more accurate search in the Start menu, Quick Settings, and improved coverage of local and current events on your Widgets board. Tabs in File Explorer will be added to Windows 11 in October, which has been a long-requested feature.
Windows 11 now includes additional productivity tools
Windows 11 debuted with features aimed at multitaskers and users looking for more organization. Snap Layouts, which neatly arrange open Windows on your desktop, are more versatile with this new update, with improved touch navigation and the ability to snap multiple browser tabs in Microsoft Edge.
To reduce distractions, the update introduces Focus sessions, as well as a, Do Not Disturb mode. According to Microsoft, when you start a new Focus session, Windows switches to Do Not Disturb mode. This mute notification disables taskbar badges and disables app notifications in our taskbar. Focus also enhances the Clock App with timers to assist you in focusing and remembering to take breaks.
New accessibility features are included in the Windows 11 update
The text-to-speech function in Windows 11’s built-in screen reader, Narrator, will receive more natural voices.
Furthermore, new system-wide live captions will go beyond the live caption features of individual apps. By default, system-wide live captions will appear at the top of the screen and beneath the camera, but users can change the caption location to the bottom of the screen or a separate floating window. Live captions can now transcribe in-person conversations by capturing microphone audio.
Voice access, which is still in beta, expands on existing voice commands by allowing you to control your PC and author text vocally. When you first use voice access, you will go through an interactive tutorial on how to complete common tasks with your voice. If the tool does not recognize a word, it provides real-time feedback.
Security and smart app control
Microsoft claims that Smart App Control would increase your level of comfort when downloading programs for Windows 11. The program prevents untrusted or unsigned apps, script files, and potentially malicious macros from infiltrating your system. The feature, which is based on the same AI as Windows Defender Application Control, is available for both personal and business use.
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen can now detect and alert you when you enter your Microsoft credentials on a malicious app or hacked website.
On all new Windows 11 devices, the update also enables Hypervisor-protected code integrity or HVCI, and the Microsoft vulnerable driver block list by default. In the update, Microsoft has also improved identity protection and simplified password management.
Better video calls and content creator tools
Microsoft Teams became more accessible with the release of Windows 11. The most recent update adds Windows Studio Effects, which can enhance audio and video calls. The new Windows Studio camera filters out background noise with Voice Focus and has a background blurring tool.
Clipchamp, a video editing app, is also included in the new Windows 11 update.
Android apps and gaming
The new Controller bar in Windows 11 makes it easier to access games. This also includes a refreshed view of the Xbox Game Bar, allowing for faster access to recently played games and launchers. According to Microsoft, the update will also improve gaming performance by lowering latency and enabling Auto HDR and Variable Refresh.
Gamers will also notice a new homepage in Microsoft Edge, which includes personalized stories, quick access to the Xbox Cloud Gaming library, and recently played games. Clarity Boost is another built-in feature for sharper graphics in cloud gaming.
When Windows 11 was released, the new operating system’s partnership with Amazon brought Android apps to Windows PCs. The Amazon App Store preview has been expanded, bringing the total number of Android apps and games to 20,000.
Greener characteristics
The most recent Windows 11 update aims to make it easier to reduce the carbon footprint of your device. When devices are plugged in, turned on, and connected to the internet, for example, and if regional carbon intensity data is available, Windows will schedule updates at times of the potential day when carbon emissions will be reduced. Microsoft also stated that it modified the default power settings for Sleep and Screen off to help reduce emissions when PCs are idle.
