Even though ChatGPT is completely free to use, OpenAI has a financial reason to keep it that way. With a ChatGPT Plus contract, you can use a completely different GPT-4-based service that is faster and more reliable.
How does ChatGPT Plus work?
Insider information about ChatGPT Plus had been leaking out for weeks, but on February 1, 2023, OpenAI, the company that made the well-known generative text AI, finally made the official statement.
The research preview release of ChatGPT was done so that the team could “learn more about the system’s advantages and disadvantages and get user feedback to help us fix its flaws,” as stated in the accompanying blog post. ” Since then, “millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several major updates, and we’ve seen users find value in a wide spectrum of professional use cases,” which include activities such as producing and editing content, coming up with ideas, obtaining assistance with programming, and learning new things.
ChatGPT Plus is an AI chatbot, just like ChatGPT Standard. It is a more accurate machine learning helper that can “chat” in natural language. The latest version of the chatbot is the one that can be used right now.
What is the price?
ChatGPT Plus costs US$20 per month, which is much less than what was said it would cost. ChatGPT’s free form is still available, so you won’t have to pay to use the service in the future.
But it will be interesting to see how long OpenAI keeps their prices at this level. It has been said that ChatGPT Plus costs as much as US$700,000 a day to run, but we don’t know how many users it has at the moment.
What comes with ChatGPT Plus?
When ChatGPT was first released, it was said that people could use three different functions:
- Everyone has access to ChatGPT, even during the busiest times.
- Faster reaction times
- access to upgrades and new tools before anyone else.
The major reason to buy ChatGPT Plus is to be able to use ChatGPT during busy times. The fact that some people have to wait for hours to get in should be proof that the subscription plan will work. Even if it’s not clear what the new features will be, the idea of getting changes and new features before anyone else is interesting.
But it’s not as simple as just getting to the front of the line. ChatGPT Plus provides formal support for the GPT-4 large language model (LLM), which is the most recent version available. This is a big improvement over GPT-3.5, which is used by regular ChatGPT. OpenAI says that GPT-4 is a much better tool for working together on creative projects and gives 40% more accurate answers. Even though we are still figuring out how much more powerful GPT-4 is than GPT-3.5, some experts think it may even show early signs of AGI (artificial general intelligence).
Other important improvements made possible by GPT-4 are the ability to get data from the internet before 2022, the ability to get visual input instead of just text, and the ability to get and send much longer text inputs and outputs. GPT-4 has a limit of 25,000 words, which is a lot more than ChatGPT’s limit of 3,000 words.

Why does OpenAI want you to give them money?
Because ChatGPT is so popular, there is an urgent need to make it faster and easier for more people to use. This is due to the high operating costs of ChatGPT, which include things like hosting, maintenance, updating, upgrading hardware, paying investors, and many other things. Some figures put the cost of running it at $100,000 per day, or up to $3 million per month! The premium membership should pay for upgrades to the computers.
With a paid subscription, it seems likely that OpenAI will be able to handle bandwidth issues, especially during busy times of the day.
Can I join ChatGPT Plus right now?
Yes. At first, you could only get early access to ChatGPT Plus if you were invited after being put on a waitlist. Simply select “Upgrade to Plus” from the sidebar’s footer to upgrade to ChatGPT’s premium service.

What’s next for ChatGPT Plus?
GPT-4.5 is the most important of these LLM changes that OpenAI is making. We don’t know much about this new model except that it will be based on the GPT-4. OpenAI has said in the past that GPT-4.5 could be fully trained and ready to use by September or October of this year.
Even though ChatGPT Plus users will likely be able to get GPT-4.5, we still don’t know what the company has planned for future versions of its chatbot.
At one point, it was said that GPT-5 was being made, but OpenAI says that it is no longer even on the plan.
